A BRIEF HISTORY   

 

    The Department of Zoology was established as Department of Biology, during the same time when the National University of Mongolia is founded itself.

In that time the Department of Biology has been served to teach the biological courses for students of the medical, agricultural and teacher’s departments. During the beginning years of the university, several lecturers from the former Soviet Union such as zoologist prof. A.G. Bannikov, prof. V.N. Skalon and botanist prof. A.A. Yunatov have been served in teaching of biology classes. They have been worked not only as lecturers, but also they completed serious researches on the fauna and flora of Mongolia.

    In 1951 the Department of Biology jointly with the Chemistry department started to train the biology teachers for secondary schools. Later, in 1963 the Department of Biology divided into two different units as Department of Zoology and Department of Botany. Since then the Department of Zoology is serving up to date as one of the basic unit of NUM to conduct training and research in the field of zoology.
